We’ve all heard the joke is about how many politicians it takes to change a light bulb, or how many lawyers it takes to change a light bulb. But the fact is, in this day of increasing specialization, some people feel insecure and in some cases, downright unsafe when it comes to performing any task involving electricity. They may be specialists in their field and become totally immersed in their specialisation that they lose the simple day-to-day awareness of life going on around them.

There are many people, however, who have had bad experiences with electricity and are completely ill at ease when it comes to electricity. That’s why they feel the need to call an electrician to perform even the most basic tasks, like changing a light bulb.

For complete safety, you should turn off the power at the box, but at the very least you need to turn off the appliance, or light in question.

Make sure the existing bulb is cool before attempting to remove it, and once it is okay to proceed, grasp it firmly, but not too tightly, and turn it counterclockwise until it comes out of its socket.

Choose a replacement bulb of the same strength and put it into the same socket, this time turning it clockwise until it fits snugly.

Time to test! Turn on the power and throw the switch. Hopefully, you now have light again!
